“Ministry Opportunity: Feeding the Community”Categories: Ministry Opportunities
As we look for ways to continue to minister to our community while we have suspended our public gatherings, here are a couple of opportunities for Orange Hill to help. One of the aspects of the response to COVID-19 in our community is the closure of schools and many after school programs. One consequence of this is that many students who depend on meals from the school system will need to be fed in other ways. Here is an excerpt from a note from Lin Harrison about the opportunity we have to be part of meeting that need.
"The schools and Walton Communities, in an effort to continue some services to vulnerable families, are asking their partner churches to work with them during this 'schools closed period' to meet basic food/nutrition needs. Sanders Elementary has an on-campus food pantry supplied by MUST Ministries. They would like to continue scheduled distributions with OHBC as the pick-up point. We are scheduling the pick up day to be Wednesdays 5p-7p. MUST Ministries will begin sending food boxes to OHBC for distribution next week.
Walton Communities has closed their Adventure Centers’ after school programs. They do want to provide a daily sack lunch during this season by working with church partners...We can make lunches and distribute on Thursday and Friday. I believe we can safely meet these needs with a small team of volunteers. The details will be firmed up on Monday (3/16)."
If you would like to help with meeting these needs, please contact Lin to find out how you can be involved.
